Profile

Principles of operation

The most important part of Sahan International Relief Association’s activity is oriented to the field of healthcare for the sick people and education in order to contribute solving the problem of children and adults without schools in Somalia.

Projects

Our projects are basically helping the Tuberculosis infected patients and pregnant women and children, and also primary education for children and adults in this first phase of the organization.

Project implementation

Any project we carry out has mainly two phases: -

Planning: includes setting up project proposal and fund raising. Implementation and missions: once sufficient fund is found, the project is implemented. If is necessary, a mission is sent to the site prior to project implementation. Project follow-up, progress report writing and financial statement are all integral part of project implementation.

Staff

A managing board chaired by Bio analyst Jama Farah governs SAHAN. It is staffed with intellectuals with different educational background. We have a local staff in the field. It is them who carry out the projects in the field. Based on the suggestions of the local staff, the board devices the policy and the road map of SAHAN activities either implementation or planning.

Training Projects

Four training courses –two for the staff in the Finland and two for the local staff are incorporated every year plan. Trainings are mostly capacity building and financial handling.

The contents of any training among other things are: -

* Inventory of training institutions
* Assessment of training needs
* Preparation, execution and evaluation of the training programs

Partnership in the Finland

Partnerships lie at the core of SAHAN’s work. Therefore we are partner with FORMIN (Foreign Ministry), Somda-seura, SSHDA, Gannaane ry, Warsan Somali Media and many others. But we get financial support from FORMIN. We are having discussions with Finnish Somalia Network and Ministry of Education for future partnership.

Future

Future activities will be based on the success of the current activities within the framework of the organization’s objectives. In other words, these activities will be:-

* Maintain the balance between
* (a) sustaining the current projects and
* (b) creating the new ones.

SAHAN’s solid criterion is which project has priority over others in terms of short-term social benefits. Other areas of future attention are:-

* Management problem solving

Promoting public awareness and environmental protection.
